Youth dies in Kano water accident

A tragic incident occurred in Kano State when 18-year-old Abdullahi Aminu fell into a pond at Kofar Gabas in the Danbatta Local Government Area, resulting in his drowning, according to the Kano State Fire Service.

The incident was disclosed by the Director of the Kano State Fire Service, Sani Anas, through a statement issued by the service's Public Relations Officer, Saminu Abdullahi, on Wednesday in Kano.

According to Abdullahi, the incident took place on Tuesday afternoon, with the fire station receiving a distress call at approximately 3:28 p.m. from Aminu Lawan, the victim's father, who reported his son's drowning.

The fire service swiftly responded to the emergency call by deploying a rescue team to the scene, as stated by Abdullahi, who added that the team retrieved the victim's body from the pond, unfortunately, already deceased.

The cause of the incident is currently under investigation, as confirmed by the Public Relations Officer, who also stated that the victim's body was handed over to Alhaji Baba Ado Sarkin Bai, the Secretary to the District Head of Danbatta.

Abdullahi expressed his condolences to the family of the deceased and cautioned residents to be vigilant when near ponds and waterways, especially during the rainy season.
