X sets final revenue sharing payout for September 11

X has announced that its final Revenue Sharing payout will be made on Friday, September 11, as the social media platform ends the programme and transitions creators to its new Original Content Rewards scheme.

The company confirmed the development in a post on its official X Creators account on Tuesday, advising eligible creators to apply for Original Content Rewards through Creator Studio.

X Creators said, “Revenue Sharing has officially sunset, the last payout is this Friday, September 11. If you were enrolled in Revenue Sharing and get approved, your first OCR payout is September 25.”

Creators who were enrolled in Revenue Sharing and get approved for the new programme will therefore receive their first Original Content Rewards payout two weeks after the final payment under the old scheme.

The move follows X’s August announcement that it was discontinuing Revenue Sharing and replacing it with Original Content Rewards, a system designed to reward original ideas, expertise, reporting, creativity and commentary.n

When the change was first announced, Allegra Jacchia, X’s product manager focused on creators, explained that the incentives under Revenue Sharing had become misaligned.

“Revenue Sharing had reached a point where its incentives were misaligned. Creators should be focused on bringing net new content to the platform instead of maximizing payouts,” she said.

Jacchia added that X could have continued adding rules and exceptions to the old programme, but chose instead to start fresh.

“The better decision was to start fresh and build a program designed from day one to reward originality,” she said. “This program is built around a simple idea: reward the creators who bring original ideas, expertise, creativity, and unique perspectives to X— not those who have become best at gaming the system.”
