Woman crushed to death after falling from motorcycle in Ogun

A yet-to-be-identified female passenger has been crushed to death by a truck after falling from the motorcycle on the Agbara-Lusada Expressway in the Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area of Ogun State.

PUNCH Metro learnt from an eyewitness, identified as Kunle, on Sunday that the crash occurred around 7pm on Saturday at Cashier Bus Stop along the highway.

Kunle said the accident occurred while the motorcycle was attempting to overtake the truck.

According to him, the woman fell from the motorcycle and was crushed by the truck.

He said, “The accident involved a woman who was a passenger on a motorcycle. The motorcycle tried to overtake the truck, and in the process, the passenger, who was a woman, fell and was crushed by the truck.”

The spokesperson for the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency, Babatunde Akinbiyi, confirmed the incident in a telephone conversation with our correspondent on Sunday.

Akinbiyi said the vehicles involved were a white Howo truck with registration number T-34611LA and two motorcycles whose registration numbers were not displayed.

According to him, eyewitnesses said the crash occurred when one of the motorcycle riders allegedly attempted to overtake wrongly, causing a female passenger to fall under the truck.

“The RTA/RTC was caused by wrong overtaking on the part of the Okada rider, which led one of the Okada passengers to fall under the truck, which claimed her life,” Akinbiyi said.

Akinbiyi said five people were involved in the crash, comprising three males and two females, while two people, a male and a female, sustained injuries.

He noted that the injured victims were taken to a hospital by a good Samaritan before TRACE operatives arrived at the scene.

Akinbiyi added that the deceased’s remains had been taken away by her family, while the truck was moved to police custody for further investigation.

He said TRACE operatives and PAPA OSCAR responders attended to the incident and restored normal traffic flow along the expressway.

PUNCH Metro reported on Wednesday that four people were killed in a fatal crash around Straight Gate School, Ipara Remo, along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

The crash involved a blue Mitsubishi Canter with registration number FGE 753 XA and an ash-coloured Howo truck with registration number T-695 KT.
