Wike's verbal attack reveals his anxiety over critics, fails to tarnish Amaechi's image — ADC

The African Democratic Congress has criticized Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, for his attempts to disparage former Minister of Transport, Rotimi Amaechi, indicating that Wike is intimidated by the growing opposition against the administration he serves, rather than demonstrating political strength.

The party dismissed Wike's claim that the 2027 election in Rivers State is already settled and that any party he supports will emerge victorious, stating that every election presents unique challenges and that the electorate has become more informed.

Wike had stated during his monthly media chat in Abuja on Tuesday that Amaechi no longer possesses the political influence to win elections in Rivers State, but the ADC argued that the outcome of elections is determined by the citizens and the prevailing political circumstances.

Rivers State ADC Publicity Secretary, Chizi Enyi, issued a statement in Port Harcourt on Tuesday, saying that Wike is futilely attempting to undermine Amaechi's political relevance in the state and in Nigeria as a whole.

Enyi questioned why Wike, who claims that the opposition poses no threat, is expending time and resources attacking individuals he believes have no political value, suggesting that this behavior is indicative of anxiety rather than confidence.

The ADC statement noted that Wike's repeated references to previous elections overlook the fact that every election is unique and determined by the citizens under the prevailing political circumstances.

The statement emphasized that the 2027 election will be no exception, and that the people of Rivers State will have the final say in determining the outcome.

According to the statement, Wike's attempts to rewrite political history will not erase the fact that Rotimi Amaechi remains one of the most significant political leaders to emerge from Rivers State, with a record in governance and national leadership that speaks for itself.

The ADC stated that Rivers people are more concerned about issues such as the economy, insecurity, unemployment, and poor infrastructure, rather than endless political quarrels or personality clashes.

The party emphasized that public office holders should focus on addressing these challenges, rather than engaging in political grandstanding or attempts to intimidate the electorate.

The ADC affirmed that it will continue to engage with Rivers people and offer credible leadership, responsible governance, and practical solutions to the challenges facing the state and nation.

Enyi advised Wike to concentrate on his responsibilities as Minister of the Federal Capital Territory and allow Rivers people to make their democratic choices without intimidation or propaganda.
