WAFU-U17: Flamingos ​‌‍​‌‍⁠⁠‌⁠‍‍‌⁠​‍⁠‌​crowned champions after 4-0 win over Togo

Nigeria’s U-17 Women’s team, the Flamingos, were crowned champions of the 2026 WAFU-U17 Girls’ Cup after thrashing Togo 4-0 on Sunday in Yamoussoukro, Côte d’Ivoire.

The Hakeem Busari-led team emerged Champions after winning all their five matches in the competition, including victories against Ghana and hosts Côte d’Ivoire.

A brace by Captain Chidi Harmony put the Nigerian girls two goals up going into the break.

The striker converted twice from the spot in the 15th and 35th minutes of the tie.

Nigeria scored two more goals in the second half through strikes from Olubebube Umejiaku and Oluwakemi Adegbuyi in the 67th and 90th minutes, wrapping up an impressive unbeaten tournament for the girls.

Speaking after the victory on Sunday, Captain Chidi Harmony said it was not an easy task winning all five matches of the competition.

“We are so proud of what we have achieved. It is not easy to win all five matches. Our main achievement is beating Ghana and the hosts Côte d’Ivoire,” she said.

The Flamingos will now turn their focus to preparations for the U-17 World finals coming on in Morocco from October 17 to November 8, where Nigeria is grouped with North Korea, Puerto Rico and Poland in Group B.
