VIDEO: Super Falcons distribute kits to 150 grassroots female teams

Nigeria’s Super Falcons, winners of the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, have distributed training kits and essential equipment to about 150 grassroots female football teams across Nigeria as part of what they described as their “Mission X” legacy project.

This was disclosed in a video posted on Instagram on Tuesday by Super Falcons players, Rasheedat Ajibade and Halimatu Ayinde, who said the gesture was aimed at inspiring the next generation of female footballers in the country.

According to the players, the team resolved to use their WAFCON triumph as “a tool for change” for young female footballers who face limited resources and support at the grassroots level.

“Going into the WAFCON 2025 in Morocco, we, the Super Falcons of Nigeria, came together with a goal to use our victory to inspire the next generation and as a tool for change,” the players said.

They said the team reached out to the 150 teams after winning the tournament, having identified the challenges confronting grassroots female football in Nigeria.

n

“After winning the WAFCON 2025, titled Mission X, we reached out to about 150 grassroots female football teams across Nigeria because we knew the challenges they face; we knew resources are scarce, the support is limited, so we decided to take action,” they said.

The players said the items distributed, including balls, cones and bibs, were basic but essential for the teams’ development.

“We distributed training kits and essential equipment, things like balls, cones and bibs, just the basic things they need to chase their dreams,” they said.

Ajibade and Ayinde said the initiative was intended to affirm the aspirations of the young players and assure them of the team’s support.

“This is more than just giving supplies; it is about showing that their game matters, their dream matters, their dreams are valid. We see them, and we hear them, and we are here to support,” they said.

The players described the players in the grassroots teams as the future of Nigerian football.

“And to the young players out there, you are the future of Nigerian football, and we believe in you,” they said.

Ajibade and Ayinde said the Super Falcons’ legacy would be defined beyond trophies won on the pitch.

“As a team, our legacy isn’t just about winning trophies; it’s about being the change, being that spark that ignites a movement,” they said.

They described each kit distributed as a commitment to a longer-term partnership with the grassroots teams.

“Every kit that we gave them is a promise, a promise that we’re walking this journey together with them, that we’re building something bigger, something that will last. This is the Mission X legacy,” they said.

The players reiterated their message to aspiring grassroots female footballers across the country.

n

“To all the aspiring grassroots female footballers, you are the future of Nigerian football, and we believe in you,” they said.
