Veteran Nollywood actor Pete Edochie has expressed frustration over Nigeria’s persistent electricity challenges, revealing that he spends about ₦40,000 daily to keep his home powered.

Speaking in an interview with African Independent Television on Thursday, the 78-year-old actor detailed the breakdown of his daily energy expenses.

According to him, ₦10,000 goes toward purchasing electricity units from the national distribution company, ₦20,000 is spent running a diesel generator, while another ₦10,000 covers the cost of fueling a petrol generator.

“On the whole, I spend forty thousand every single day on light. It disturbs me a big deal. Then I listen to people who are only interested in getting into politics and enjoying power. Nobody seems to be bothered about what is happening to the common man,” Pete Edochie lamented.

The actor’s comments reflect the growing frustration among many Nigerians over inconsistent electricity supply across the country.

In recent weeks, social media platforms have been flooded with complaints from consumers about limited power supply, even under the government’s tiered electricity system. Customers classified under Band A, who are theoretically entitled to up to 20 hours of electricity daily, have reported receiving as little as five hours in some areas.

Edochie’s remarks add to the ongoing public discourse about Nigeria’s electricity crisis and the heavy financial burden many households face as they rely on generators to supplement unreliable grid power.
