VIDEO: ‘I won, beat you guys,’ Davido tells Wike in playful exchange

Afrobeats star, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, was captured in a light-hearted exchange with Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike, playfully declaring victory and claiming he “beat” the minister’s side in a recent viral video.

The exchange, captured in a clip posted on Instagram by @OfficialPrinceNwauzor on Friday, occurred when Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke visited Wike on Thursday.

In the video, Davido, dressed in brown traditional attire, stood and repeatedly told Wike, “I won. I beat you guys,” while the minister disputed the claim.

Wike, seated in a white shirt, responded with a smile, saying, “No, no.”

n

Davido insisted, “I won! I beat you.”

n

“You beat us?” Wike asked.

n

“I beat you,” Davido repeated.

Background voices interjected with “I beg o” amid rising laughter.

The banter ended as Davido prostrated before Wike and moved in to hug him, prompting cheers, clapping and more laughter from others in the room.

Many online have linked the exchange to the outcome of the August 15, 2026, Osun State governorship election, in which Davido’s uncle, Governor Adeleke of the Accord Party, secured re-election.

PUNCH Online earlier reported that the governor visited Wike in Abuja as part of a series of consultations following his re-election.n

A photograph shared by Wike’s media aide, Lere Olayinka, showed Adeleke and the minister holding the governor’s certificate of return.

The governor had earlier met President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa before visiting the former Rivers State governor.

Adeleke, who contested the election on the platform of the Accord Party, was declared the winner by the Independent National Electoral Commission with 511,067 votes.

He defeated the All Progressives Congress candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, who polled 444,815 votes.

n

Adeleke won 19 of the state’s 30 local government areas, while Oyebamiji secured 11.

The footage of Wike and Davido quickly drew reactions online, with many users commenting on the singer’s apparent playful deference, while others criticised him for appearing cordial with figures on the political side he had strongly opposed during the campaign.

Before the poll, Davido, who actively campaigned for his uncle, repeatedly criticised the ruling party on social media over alleged use of federal might and disregard for the rule of law in Osun.

He publicly declared he would never join the APC and wrote to US President Donald Trump to pay attention to the election, expressing concerns over possible violence and disruption of the electoral process.

Meanwhile, days after the election, Wike said Adeleke won because Tinubu allowed the poll to be free and fair.

Wike dismissed claims that the Federal Government manipulated the election.

He argued that Tinubu permitted the democratic process to take its course.

n

“The President called him… congratulating him (Adeleke). What does it tell you? If Tinubu did not allow a free and fair election, would they have won? No!” Wike said.

“When you say force of the federal government… ask those who have survived it, though—people like me who survived federal might. It’s not by saying ‘they say, they say.’ It’s not true,” he added.
