Vice Chancellor of Osun State University cautions students to steer clear of secret societies and online fraud

The Vice Chancellor, Osun State University, Osogbo, Prof. Clement Adebooye, has told new students of the institution that sanctions will be strictly enforced for every violation of the institution’s regulations.

Adebooye made this known on the main campus of the university in Osogbo on Friday at the 2026/2027 matriculation ceremony for 493 new students admitted for part-time degree programmes of the institution.

Adebooye, in his admonition for the students said the university’s regulations are clear and urged them to uphold the values of honesty, discipline, responsibility and respect for constituted authority throughout their stay in the university.

“Permit me to emphasise that Osun State University maintains a zero-tolerance policy towards all forms of misconduct and anti-social behaviour. Cultism, examination malpractice, cybercrime, drug abuse, sexual harassment, violence, hooliganism, certificate fraud and every other act capable of undermining the integrity of this University have no place in our academic community.

“Our regulations are clear, and sanctions for violations are strictly enforced. I therefore urge you to uphold the values of honesty, discipline, responsibility and respect for constituted authority throughout your stay in the University,” Adebooye said.

He further implored the matriculating students to see their admission as just the beginning, and charged them to embrace the virtue of discipline, commitment, hard work and determination.

“I therefore encourage you to attend lectures regularly, participate actively in academic activities, complete your assignments diligently and cultivate healthy relationships with your lecturers and fellow students. Make effective use of the digital resources and support systems provided by the University.

“Above all, develop the habit of continuous learning, critical thinking and intellectual curiosity. The knowledge, skills and values you acquire here will define your future and determine the impact you make in society,” the VC said.

He said the institution has been recording remarkable milestones in improving the academic experience of students of its Centre for Part-Time and Advanced Studies.

He assured that no effort will be spared in ensuring that the institution keeps its high academic standard and remains one of the best in the country and beyond.

The PUNCH reports that UNIOSUN VC called on students in postgraduate programmes at the institution to engage in research that will address challenges confronting Nigerian society.

The VC spoke in Osogbo at the 11th postgraduate matriculation, where newly admitted students took an oath.

Adebooye also encouraged the students to be focused, resilient, and purposeful throughout the demanding academic journey ahead, saying that, in the end, they will find the endeavour very rewarding.
