VeryDarkMan lays out terms for complying with police summons regarding AIG accusations

Social media influencer Martins Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan, has outlined conditions for honouring the police invitation over allegations he made against the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 2 Command, AIG Moshood Jimoh.

In a statement issued by his lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, on his Instagram handle on Wednesday, the activist said he was prepared to appear before investigators but insisted that the process must be transparent to guarantee public confidence.

The development follows the Nigeria Police Force’s invitation to VeryDarkMan to appear before the Force Criminal Investigation Department, Abuja, to provide evidence supporting allegations he made against the AIG in charge of Zone 2 Command.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Ani Iniedu, said the police remained committed to due process, institutional discipline and the rule of law amid the controversy involving the two parties.

The Force disclosed that the criminal matter referenced in VeryDarkMan’s public comments had already been investigated and was before a court following legal advice from the Directorate of Public Prosecutions.

It stressed that the outcome of the case would be determined by the judiciary.

“The Force will not try this case in the media, nor will it allow its outcome to be shaped by public campaigns or commentary seeking to prejudge the officers or parties involved,” the statement read.

The police also confirmed that AIG Jimoh had been invited by the FCID for questioning over the allegations raised against him, while VeryDarkMan received a formal invitation on July 30, 2026, to substantiate his claims.

Responding to the invitation, VeryDarkMan’s legal team said the activist welcomed the investigation and had never opposed any lawful probe.

“Our client appreciates the decision of the Nigeria Police Force to commence an official investigation into the concerns he raised and reiterates his willingness to cooperate with the investigation.

“For the avoidance of doubt, our client has never opposed any lawful investigation. On the contrary, he remains ready, willing and available to honour any invitation lawfully extended to him by the Nigeria Police Force,” the statement read.

While reaffirming his readiness to cooperate, the legal team argued that the circumstances of the case demanded an open and accountable investigative process, citing the public interest generated by the allegations and the senior position of the officer involved.

As part of the conditions for honouring the invitation, the lawyers requested that representatives of the Nigerian Bar Association, civil society organisations and other independent observers be allowed to monitor the interview.

The statement reads, “The interview must be observed by the civil society organisations, the Nigerian Bar Association and such other independent observers, as may be appropriate in the circumstances, to ensure maximum transparency and eliminate any possibility of misinformation or misrepresentation.

“That his legal representative be permitted to accompany him and remain present throughout the interview.”
