Vermont goalkeeper makes switch to Turkish club alongside former teammate

Amedspor have completed the signing of Super Eagles winger Yira Sor from Belgian Pro League side Genk, adding a second Nigeria international to their squad ahead of their maiden Turkish Super Lig campaign.

The newly promoted club confirmed the transfer on Monday through its official social media platforms with a simple message welcoming the 26-year-old winger, ending months of speculation over his future after Sor had been expected to leave Genk this summer.

Sor joined Genk from Slavia Prague in January 2023, but his three-and-a-half-year spell in Belgium was disrupted by injury setbacks that limited his opportunities at the club.

He made his Super Eagles debut in March and will now be hoping for regular playing time and a strong run of form after his move to Turkey.

His arrival means he will link up with fellow Nigerian forward Gift Orban, who recently joined Amedspor on a season-long loan from Bundesliga club Hoffenheim, with an obligation to make the deal permanent should agreed conditions be met.

Orban’s move ended a spell of uncertainty over his future after he fell out of Hoffenheim’s plans following a season on loan at Italian side Hellas Verona, where he scored seven goals and provided three assists in 29 Serie A appearances but could not prevent the club’s relegation.

Sor and Orban’s arrivals give Amedspor two Nigerian attackers as they prepare for life in Turkey’s top flight for the first time in the club’s history, with the pair set to join a growing list of Nigerian players making the move to the Turkish Super Lig this summer, following Kelechi Iheanacho’s switch to Bursaspor.
