University pledges to take on spreaders of false information

Coal City University in Enugu has expressed dismay over certain negative reports circulating in the media, and has vowed to take legal action against those responsible for these claims. The university specifically denied allegations of unpaid staff salaries and a prolonged staff strike, labeling them as false and misleading.

The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Afam Ituma, made this statement on Monday at the university's Enugu campus, emphasizing that the institution is not seeking a confrontation with any media organization.

Professor Ituma clarified that the university will seek legal redress to address issues that have sparked public discussion, while also maintaining that it is not engaging in a confrontation with the media.

The university categorically denied allegations of non-payment of staff salaries and a six-month staff strike, with Professor Ituma stating that staff salaries have been paid consistently and the university does not owe any salary arrears to its employees.

Furthermore, Professor Ituma asserted that there has never been a staff strike in the history of the university, and that these allegations are entirely false and devoid of fact.

According to Professor Ituma, the reports were a deliberate attempt to misrepresent the state of affairs within the institution and tarnish its reputation.

The university is undertaking a broader review of policies related to student welfare, staff conduct, conflict resolution, and campus safety to strengthen institutional governance.

Professor Ituma confirmed that all 26 academic programs offered by the institution have received necessary approvals and accreditation from the National Universities Commission.

The university remains fully operational, with academic, research, and administrative activities continuing without disruption, according to Professor Ituma.

Professor Ituma called on media organizations to uphold professional standards by verifying facts and presenting all sides of contentious issues before publication.

The institution has directed its legal team to engage with those who published negative reports and demand a retraction of the publication, as well as other corrective measures, Professor Ituma disclosed.

Professor Ituma stated that while the university is open to constructive engagement, it will take all lawful steps necessary to protect its reputation and institutional integrity against false and misleading allegations.

The Vice-Chancellor reaffirmed the institution's commitment to academic excellence, transparency, accountability, student welfare, and ethical leadership.
