University of Ibadan provides remote study opportunities to applicants who were not initially accepted

The University of Ibadan is providing eligible candidates with a unique opportunity to pursue its degree programs without being hindered by the limited availability of on-campus spaces, thanks to its special admission window for the Open, Distance and eLearning programme.

This initiative aims to offer a second chance to candidates who participated in the Post-UTME screening but were unable to secure admission through the traditional face-to-face mode due to quota limitations and physical space constraints on campus.

A statement released by Prof. Olufade Onifade, Director of the UI Distance Learning Centre, in Ibadan, Oyo State, on Saturday, announced that the special application window for the 2025/2026 academic session will close on August 15, 2026, with classes for the special cohort scheduled to commence on August 17, 2026.

According to Onifade, candidates who sat for the UI Post-UTME examination can now switch to the ODeL mode of study at no additional cost, and will have access to flexible virtual classes with mobile learning, interactive course materials, and physical revision sessions.

The UI-ODeL programme boasts the same faculty lecturers who teach conventional programs, and upon completion, learners are awarded the prestigious University of Ibadan degree, with courses available across multiple disciplines, including B.Sc. Computer Science, B.Sc. Statistics, and B.A. English, among others.

Candidates who took the 2026 UI PUTME are eligible for the free change-of-mode offer, and can visit the official change-of-mode application portal to switch their mode of study from the conventional on-campus option to the ODeL programme.

Additionally, other qualified candidates can submit a fresh application for the special cohort, and with the August 15 deadline approaching quickly, the university is urging eligible candidates to act promptly, as available slots are expected to fill up rapidly, according to Onifade.
