Unity Cup: Chelle rates 3SC midfielder Ayobami

Super Eagles coach Eric Chelle delivered a blunt assessment of highly rated Shooting Stars midfielder Ayobami Junior after watching the club’s 3–2 win over Nasarawa United on Sunday in Ibadan, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.

Chelle was in attendance during the Matchday 36 encounter at the Lekan Salami Stadium, marking the start of his scouting of players in the Nigeria Premier Football League ahead of the Unity Cup, billed for May 26 to 30 in London.

The Unity Cup is an invitational tournament played outside the FIFA international window, and Nigeria will defend the title they won last year against India, Jamaica, and Zimbabwe.

At the end of the encounter, Chelle spoke to 3SC Fans TV to give an overview of his mission. He also commented on the quality of Ayobami, who provided two assists during the game to take his season tally to 13.

“Lucky scored two goals, but I wanted to watch Junior,” Chelle told 3SC Fans TV.

“So, he needs to work. When you don’t have the ball, you need to work. With the ball, he is very good, but when you don’t have the ball, you need to get the ball back for the team.”

The No. 10 was recently voted the club’s Player of the Month for March.

He has been one of the standout players for the club this season, alongside striker Qamar Adegoke, who has scored 10 goals, with nine of them coming from the bench.
