Undercover Sting: Joint Police and DSS Crackdown Leads to Adeyemi's Detention

Details have surfaced regarding the operation that culminated in the apprehension of Adeniyi Adeyemi, who claimed to be the Director-General of the Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council. Adeyemi's arrest occurred between 11am and 12pm on the preceding Tuesday within a building located in the Ijebu-Ijesa area of Osun State, courtesy of the Intelligence Response Team led by Chief Superintendent of Police Moses Lohor.

A senior police officer affiliated with the Osun State Police Command revealed that Adeyemi's whereabouts were initially discovered in Osogbo on July 9, following his alleged evasion of tracking by the Department of State Services. This initial discovery took place in the Aregbe-Fakule area of the state capital, prior to the Lohor team losing track of his movements.

The officer explained that the Moses Lohor team had been conducting surveillance in Osun ahead of the August 15 governorship election, focusing on identifying hotspots and gathering intelligence, all while operating from the area commander's office at Oke-Fia in Osogbo. As it happened, Adeyemi was already on their watch list, although they opted not to intervene due to the Department of State Services handling the case.

According to the source, Adeyemi's last known location, as tracked by the DSS, was Ibadan, but his frequent disconnection of his phone hindered their ability to apprehend him. The DSS eventually withdrew from the case, prompting Lohor's team to assume responsibility for tracking Adeyemi.

A senior police officer from Abuja notified the Lohor team about the DSS's withdrawal on Wednesday, after which they decided to track Adeyemi's location on Thursday, July 9, ultimately locating him around the Aregbe-Fakule area of Osogbo. The team subsequently lost Adeyemi's trail for three consecutive days due to losing connection to his phone.

Luckily, late on Monday night, Adeyemi's location indicated he was in the vicinity of Ilesa, prompting the Lohor team to intensify their efforts, which ultimately led to his arrest on Tuesday morning. The team only informed the Osun State Commissioner of Police when they were about to make the arrest.

A DSS operative familiar with the operation confirmed that Adeyemi was arrested inside a building in Ijebu-Ijesa, with the operation being carried out solely by the Moses Lohor team, consisting of seven operatives from the IRT, between 11am and 12pm. No officer from Osun participated in the operation.

Adeyemi is currently being detained at the Force Headquarters in Abuja, where he is expected to be arraigned on July 27, following a bench warrant issued against him by a Federal High Court in Abuja after he allegedly failed to appear for arraignment on eight counts. The charges against him include conspiracy, forgery, and impersonation, as outlined in a suit marked FHC/ABJ/CR/562/2025.

The suit, filed by the police, accuses Adeyemi and two others, identified as Femi and Anu, who are currently at large, of operating a fictitious government agency and forging official presidential documents to lend it legitimacy between 2024 and 2025. The list of prosecution witnesses includes the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, and three officials from the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation.

When contacted, the Osun State Police Command spokesperson, Abiodun Ojelabi, directed further inquiries to the Force Public Relations Office, stating that Adeyemi was arrested in Osun by the Intelligence Response Team attached to the Force Intelligence Department.
