UK-based Nigerian indicted in rape of 19-year-old, knows fate April

A United Kingdom-based Nigerian, Gift Oladele, has been indicted for the rape of a 19-year-old woman and is scheduled for sentencing in April following his guilty plea. PUNCH Metro learnt from a report obtained from the website of the Daily Mail on Sunday that Oladele allegedly dragged the victim into the woods before raping her. According to the report, the incident occurred in September 2025 near Wrexham, and Oladele now risks a lengthy jail term.

The Daily Mail report read, “Nigerian national Gift Oladele, 24, was found guilty last week of raping a 19-year-old woman in woodland. “In September last year, Oladele dragged a 19-year-old woman into the woods as she walked home from a night out in Wrexham, before violently raping her. “After the terrifying ordeal, he told her, ‘This will teach you a lesson not to trust strangers’.

He was convicted last Friday and he faces a lengthy prison term.” The report noted that Oladele had previously been jailed for two years for falsely imprisoning a woman in Manchester in 2022. Following his jail term, the UK Home Office reportedly ordered his deportation, but he appealed the deportation order. He was said to have argued that he had no ties to Nigeria because he was born in Italy, and that deporting him to Nigeria would be a breach of his rights.

“The Home Office ordered his deportation in 2023, but Oladele successfully appealed that order, allowing him to go on to rape a North Wales teenager. “Despite being labelled a ‘devious and manipulative’ dangerous offender by a sentencing judge, Oladele successfully blocked his deportation by citing his right to a ‘family and private life’ under Article 8 of the European Convention on Human Rights. “After the Home Office ordered Oladele’s deportation in early 2023, the Asylum and Immigration Tribunal later overturned this decision, ruling that removing him would be a ‘breach of protected rights’,” the report added.

Oladele is not the first Nigerian based in the UK who was caught in the web of a rape incident. PUNCH Metro reported in November 2025 that a Nigerian postgraduate student living in the UK, Chiemeka Okoronta, was scheduled for deportation following his 10-year jail term after being found guilty of raping a teenage girl.

The British Broadcasting Corporation had reported that the incident occurred when the teenager became stranded on a bus in West Yorkshire. The report had noted that both the victim and the student were on a night bus service that unexpectedly stopped in Morley, Leeds, while they both needed to get home to Bradford on March 25.
