Troops neutralize pair of alleged Lakurawa extremists, seize weaponry in Kebbi operation

Troops from Sector 2, Joint Task Force North West, Operation Fansan Yamma, conducted a successful operation in Kebbi State, resulting in the deaths of two suspected Lakurawa terrorists and the recovery of arms and ammunition. This operation took place on June 27, 2026, in the Sabarumawa area, as part of broader military efforts to dismantle terrorist networks and enhance security in the North-West.

The Media Information Officer of Operation Fansan Yamma, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, released a statement on Sunday detailing the events surrounding the operation. According to Danja, the troops received credible intelligence that the terrorists were planning to attack the Sabarumawa community, prompting swift action.

Troops from the Chief of Army Staff Intervention Battalion 7 were quickly deployed to the area, where they set up a tactical ambush along the suspected terrorist route. As the terrorists approached, the troops engaged them with intense firepower, sparking a fierce gun battle.

The troops ultimately overpowered the terrorists, killing two and forcing others to flee into the surrounding forest. A subsequent search of the area yielded a cache of abandoned weapons and items, including AK-47 rifles, AK-47 magazines, 143 rounds of ammunition, and one motorcycle.

According to Danja, this operation is part of sustained offensives aimed at limiting the freedom of operation for terrorists and other criminal groups in the North-West. The goal of Operation Fansan Yamma is to protect lives and property through ongoing military operations against terrorist and criminal elements.
