Troops free abducted 28-year-old man, apprehend pair of suspects in Benue

A daring rescue operation by troops of Operation Whirl Stroke has led to the liberation of 28-year-old Mrs Member Ityavber from captivity in Tse-Ubena village, Yooyo Council Ward, Katsina-Ala Local Government Area of Benue State.

This development was disclosed in a statement issued by Lieutenant Ahmad Zubairu, the Acting Media Information Officer of OPWS, which was made available to journalists on Thursday.

The rescue effort was a collaborative endeavor between the troops and the Benue Civil Protection Guard, a state security outfit, according to Lt Zubairu's statement.

The statement revealed that troops sprang into action in response to reports of kidnapping activities at Tse-Ubena village, with personnel deployed from Tor-Donga teaming up with Benue State Civil Protection Guard operatives to conduct the operation.

As a result of the operation, one kidnapped victim, 28-year-old Mrs Member Ityavber, was successfully rescued, as stated in the OPWS spokesperson's report.

In a related development, two suspected armed herders were apprehended by the troops at Mbapa and Mbabuande in Gwer West Local Government Area of the state, as announced by Lt Zubairu.

Acting on credible intelligence, the troops conducted a thorough search, uncovering an abandoned suspected criminal hideout, and subsequently carried out clearance operations across River Akpako.

The operation resulted in the arrest of two suspects, who are currently in custody undergoing further investigation, as outlined in the statement.

Major General Moses Gara, the Force Commander of the Joint Task Force Operation Whirl Stroke, commended the troops for their prompt response and professionalism in the rescue operation.
