Tragedy Strikes in Imo as Two Officers Lose Lives in Fatal Accident, Commissioner of Police Expresses Condolences

A tragic road accident has claimed the lives of two policemen from the Imo State Police Command, with the incident occurring on the Amakalu–Umuelemma Road in the Isiala Mbano Local Government Area, involving a total of seven operatives.

The Command has launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the accident, which resulted in the fatalities, according to Imo State Command Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Henry Okoye, who disclosed this information in a statement on Thursday.

The accident took place on Monday, June 29th, while the seven Police operatives were on duty in the Isiala Mbano Local Government Area, Okoye explained, adding that a thorough investigation has been commenced to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the accident.

Tragically, the two deceased operatives succumbed to their injuries while receiving medical treatment, and the other five personnel are still hospitalized, with the State Police Commissioner, Audu Bosso, expressing sympathy to the families of the deceased operatives and praying for the repose of their souls.

Okoye quoted the Commissioner of Police, Imo State Command, CP Audu Garba Bosso, as expressing deep sorrow over the tragic road traffic accident involving seven personnel of the Command who were on official duty on 29th June, 2026, along the Amakalu–Umuelemma Road in Isiala Mbano Local Government Area of Imo State.

CP Audu Garba Bosso noted that two of the officers later succumbed to their injuries while receiving medical treatment, while the other injured personnel are currently undergoing treatment, and has directed that every necessary medical and welfare support be provided to the injured officers to aid their recovery.

On behalf of the officers and men of the Imo State Police Command, CP Audu Garba Bosso extended his heartfelt condolences to the families, friends, and colleagues of the deceased officers, describing their deaths as a painful loss to the Command and the Nigeria Police Force.

The Commissioner of Police noted that the dedication and sacrifice of the deceased officers in the line of duty will always be remembered, and prayed for the speedy and full recovery of the injured personnel, assuring their families of the Command’s unwavering support during this difficult period.

CP Audu Garba Bosso reaffirmed that the welfare of officers and men remains a priority of the Command, and the Command has commenced a thorough investigation to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the accident.

The Imo State Police Command is praying for the peaceful repose of the souls of the departed officers and urges members of the public to keep their families and the injured personnel in their thoughts and prayers, according to Okoye.

Okoye did not disclose the names of the deceased nor the other affected personnel involved in the accident, which is currently under investigation.

In a separate incident, four people lost their lives in a road accident along Ilesa/Akure expressway at Omi Asoro Junction Ilesa, Osun State, in May, resulting in the injury of 10 other passengers.

Agnes Ogungbemi, the Osun Sector Public Education Officer of the Federal Road Safety Corps, reported that the accident occurred at Omi Asoro Junction Ilesa, resulting in the loss of four lives and injuring 10 other passengers.
