Top SWAGA officials throw their weight behind Tinubu and Oyebanji's bids for another term

The Southwest Agenda for Asiwaju Bola Tinubu's national leadership has thrown its weight behind the re-election bid of Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, and President Bola Tinubu, in the upcoming elections, with a strong call to action for Ekiti voters to back both leaders in their respective polls.

The group's appeal came during the inauguration of SWAGA 2.0 in Ado Ekiti on Wednesday, an event that drew prominent figures from the Southwest states, including Oyebanji, Deputy Governor Mrs Monisade Afuye, and House of Assembly Speaker Adeoye Aribasoye, among others.

The Ekiti State governorship election is scheduled to take place on June 20, 2026, while the presidential election is set for January 16, 2027, marking two crucial polls that will shape the state's and country's future.

SWAGA 2.0's launch event was attended by notable personalities, including former governor Segun Oni and former House of Representatives member Dr Ife Arowosoge, all of whom are united in their support for Oyebanji and Tinubu's re-election bids.

According to SWAGA National Leader and Chairman, Nigeria Ports Authority, Adedayo Adeyeye, the group's primary focus between now and June 20 is to secure Oyebanji's re-election, with a target of 500,000 votes, which he believes can be surpassed.

Adeyeye emphasized that after June 20, the group's attention will shift to supporting President Tinubu's re-election, but for now, the message is clear: support Governor Oyebanji's re-election bid.

SWAGA Convener and Managing Director, Federal Housing Authority, Oyetunde Ojo, reflected on the group's origins in 2020, stating that their conviction in Tinubu's ability to transform Nigeria has been vindicated by his performance in office.

Ojo urged Ekiti people to vote en masse for Oyebanji on June 20, stressing that this will not only ensure the governor's re-election but also strengthen President Tinubu's position ahead of the presidential election.

He highlighted the significance of cumulative votes in the presidential election, noting that Ekiti's contribution will be crucial to the overall outcome, with a target of over 500,000 votes for Governor Oyebanji.

SWAGA National Woman Leader, Mrs Ayo Omidiran, praised President Tinubu for the developments in the country over the last three years and advocated for another term to consolidate gains and improve the quality of life for Nigerians.

Omidiran also commended Oyebanji for his performance in office and urged Ekiti people to re-elect him on June 20, as this will enable him to lead the campaign for Tinubu's re-election in the state.

Former governor of Ekiti State, Segun Oni, acknowledged SWAGA's role in Tinubu's 2023 election victory and encouraged the group to redouble its efforts for the President's re-election in 2027.

Oni praised Tinubu's achievements in office, stating that Nigeria is once again attracting attention globally, with rising expectations about the country's potential, and urged SWAGA to work towards record-breaking achievements in the upcoming elections.

Oyebanji, who attended the programme after cancelling his campaign engagement, expressed gratitude to SWAGA and highlighted the benefits of having Tinubu as President, citing road constructions and other supports to the state from the Federal Government.

The governor emphasized that with Tinubu's support, his administration has achieved significant development in Ekiti State, and he is confident that the President will achieve even more if given eight years in office.

Oyebanji set a minimum target of 500,000 votes for his re-election and 700,000 votes for the presidential election, warning against complacency and urging APC members and supporters to mobilize voters in their wards and polling units.

He advised party members to accompany at least three to five registered voters to the polling unit on election day to ensure a strong turnout and achieve their target.
