Tinubu renews tenure of NTA, NAN DGs for another three years

President Bola Tinubu on Sunday renewed the tenure of the Director-General of the Nigerian Television Authority, Abdulhamid Salihu Dembos, and the Managing Director of the News Agency of Nigeria, Ali Mohammed Ali, for another three-year term each.

The President’s decision was disclosed in a statement signed by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, on Sunday, titled, ‘President Tinubu Renews the Tenure of DG NTA, MD NAN.’

Onanuga said Tinubu first appointed Dembos and Ali on October 20, 2023, adding that their second term would commence on October 20, 2026.

Dembos, from Yola, Adamawa State, is a former National President of the Radio, Television, Theatre and Art Workers Union and previously served as Executive Director of Marketing at the NTA after his retirement in 2017.

According to the statement, Dembos joined the NTA as an announcer at its Kaduna station after his National Youth Service in 1989.

He subsequently rose through the ranks, serving at various times as General Manager of NTA Lokoja and NTA Kano before retiring as Acting Zonal Director of the NTA Kaduna Network Centre in 2017.

The Presidency said, “Salihu Dembos, from Yola, Adamawa State, is a former National President of the Radio, Television, Theatre and Art Workers Union. He previously served as the executive director of marketing at the NTA after his retirement in 2017.”

On Ali, the statement described him as “a veteran journalist and media manager with over 30 years of experience,” noting his interest in media evolution and content development in the digital environment.

The Presidency said Ali holds a first degree in English from Bayero University, Kano, a graduate degree in International Affairs from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, and a Postgraduate Diploma in Mass Communications from Bayero University, Kano.

The statement added, “President Tinubu has urged the two chief executives to justify his confidence in them by continuing to demonstrate commitment to their organisation’s mandates and the promotion of the government’s Renewed Hope Agenda.”

The renewal takes effect from October 20, 2026, when their first three-year tenure expires.
