Tinubu possesses sufficient determination to tackle security issues, according to Oshiomhole

Senator Adams Oshiomhole, representing Edo North, asserted on Friday that President Bola Tinubu possesses ample political will to tackle the country's insecurity woes, emphasizing that the administration has provided the necessary resources and leadership to secure the nation.

According to Oshiomhole, the rising insecurity in the country cannot be attributed to a lack of political will from the President, as he has demonstrated his commitment through financial investments and administrative actions, thereby showcasing his resolve to address the issue.

Speaking at the book launch of Commandant Olusola Odumosu, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps Federal Capital Territory Commandant, in Abuja, Oshiomhole dismissed claims that the executive arm is failing to prioritize security, stating that President Tinubu has political will "in abundance".

Oshiomhole pointed to the President's financial commitments, including supplementary budgets approved at the National Assembly, as evidence of his resolve, asking "what more political will do you need?" in reference to the measures taken by the President to address insecurity.

The former Edo State governor noted that the President has taken decisive actions, including declaring a state of emergency and replacing former security chiefs, demonstrating his commitment to tackling the country's security challenges.

Oshiomhole emphasized that when it comes to security, there is a need for unity, stating "there is one Nigeria" and that political affiliations, such as APC or PDP, should not hinder collective efforts to address insecurity.

He, however, raised concerns about the effective implementation of instructions given at the top by lower ranks, suggesting that this is an area that requires attention and improvement.

Oshiomhole questioned whether those in lower ranks have the necessary equipment, morale, and allowances to carry out the instructions given by their commanders, highlighting the need for a thorough examination of the system.

The senator also suggested a review of the name of the Nigerian Civil Defence, arguing that the "civil" designation is contradictory for an agency tasked with confronting armed criminals and bearing firearms.

Commandant Olusola Odumosu, the author of the book, echoed concerns about inter-agency coordination, stating that the book was written to advocate for a united front among security agencies in addressing the country's security challenges.

Odumosu identified unhealthy inter-security agency rivalry as a major obstacle to effective national security response, emphasizing the need for security agencies to work together and present a united front against criminality and insecurity.

According to Odumosu, no single agency or individual has a monopoly on wisdom or knowledge, and therefore, a collective approach is necessary to address the complex security challenges facing the country.

Critics have attributed the persistence of banditry, kidnapping, terrorism, and oil theft to a lack of political will on the part of the government, however, Oshiomhole disagreed with such arguments, emphasizing that President Tinubu has demonstrated his commitment to addressing the country's security challenges.
