The Anglican Church Appoints Four Additional Bishops

The Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion) has selected four new bishops to oversee dioceses nationwide, a decision made following the Episcopal Synod at the Advance Episcopal Consultation in Port Harcourt.

This development was announced on Thursday by The Most Rev. Henry Ndukuba, Primate of the Church of Nigeria, as the synod's deliberations drew to a close at Our Saviour’s Chapel, University of Port Harcourt.

The announcement of the elections was made public through a statement issued by Ven. Raphael A. Aderinwale, Director of Communications of the Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion).

The statement identified the newly elected bishops as Ven. Dr. Godwin Tersoo Simon Yakela for the Diocese of Makurdi, Ven. Dr. Kingsley Ogbonda for the Diocese of Uyo, Ven. Dr. Julius Oyediran for the Diocese of Ekiti Oke, and Ven. Dr. Olayemi Fatusi for Awori Diocese.

The Primate noted that the elections were finalized after the bishops engaged in prayerful deliberations during the Episcopal Synod, highlighting the careful consideration that went into the selection process.

He also revealed that the bishops-elect will be formally consecrated during the General Synod of the Church of Nigeria, scheduled to take place in The Diocese of Remo in September.

The conclusion of these elections marks the end of the Church's process for choosing new episcopal leaders for the four dioceses, with the bishops-elect set to take on key responsibilities.

According to the church, the newly elected bishops will be responsible for the spiritual oversight of their respective dioceses, as well as promoting evangelism and strengthening the Anglican Communion within their jurisdictions.

The Primate urged church members to offer their support to the bishops-elect through prayer, asking that they be upheld in prayer and granted the wisdom, strength, and humility needed to fulfill their episcopal duties.
