Teenager in Kwara murders caretaker following unsuccessful bid to poison him

A 15-year-old boy, Gobri Yusuf, has been taken into custody by the Kwara State Police Command for allegedly taking the life of his guardian, Akanbi, who had raised him as her own in Ilorin, the state's capital city.
nAccording to reports, Yusuf's attack on Akanbi occurred after an earlier attempt to poison her had been unsuccessful, with the boy using various household items to carry out the assault.
nCommissioner of Police Adekimi Ojo announced the arrest on Friday during a press conference held at the command's headquarters in Ilorin.
nOjo explained that the police had made the arrest after receiving a distress call regarding the discovery of Akanbi's lifeless body, found in a pool of blood at her residence.
nPreliminary investigations revealed that Yusuf, who resided with the deceased, had allegedly launched the attack while Akanbi was bathing, using the opportunity to strike from behind a door.
nThe commissioner disclosed that a range of household items, including a frying pan, a weighing scale, a kitchen turning stick, and kitchen knives, were recovered from the suspect.
nDuring questioning, Yusuf confessed to the crime, citing a deep-seated resentment towards Akanbi as the motivation behind his actions.
nFollowing the alleged attack, Yusuf changed his clothes and left the residence, pretending to run an errand, before contacting Akanbi's husband, who subsequently discovered her body.
nThe police commissioner confirmed that Yusuf remains in custody as the investigation into the incident continues.
