Teachers' union praises Oborevwori for tackling persistent professional advancement barriers

The Delta State chapter of the Nigeria Union of Teachers has lauded Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for approving enhanced career progression for university graduate teachers in the state’s public primary schools.

The union described the decision as a significant milestone in improving teachers’ welfare and strengthening the education sector.

In a letter to the governor jointly signed by the branch’s Chairman and the Assistant Secretary-General, Poubeni Dickson and Dan Basime, respectively, copies of which were made available to journalists in Warri on Thursday, the union noted with delight that “the approval reflected the Oborevwori administration’s commitment to rewarding professionalism and investing in quality education.”

It described the governor’s intervention as timely, as it has helped address “a long-standing challenge that had limited the career advancement of graduate teachers in the primary school system in the state.”

It emphasised that with the intervention, teachers would be re-energised to carry out their duties effectively.

“The development would boost morale and further enhance service delivery across public schools. The policy would elevate the status of graduate teachers, improve motivation and encourage greater dedication to teaching, ultimately translating into better learning outcomes for pupils across the state,” the union further stated.

While thanking Oborevwori, the union prayed for greater success in the administration’s efforts to transform the state.

The union assured the governor that teachers would reciprocate the gesture with renewed commitment, higher productivity and sustained professionalism in the discharge of their responsibilities.

It also reaffirmed support for the administration, just as it expressed confidence that the governor would continue to implement policies that promote educational development and improve the welfare of workers across the state.
