TCN steps up repair of collapsed Kebbi power tower

The Transmission Company of Nigeria has intensified efforts to restore the 330kV Kainji-Birnin Kebbi transmission line following the collapse of tower T367 at Yauri in Kebbi State.

TCN said significant progress had been made at the affected site, with the damaged tower completely dismantled and decommissioned.

The tower reportedly collapsed after the line tripped at about 10:44 p.m. on Monday, September 7, 2026, prompting linesmen from TCN’s Birnin Kebbi Sub-Region to carry out a fault-finding patrol along the corridor.

TCN had attributed the collapse to heavy winds and rainstorms in the area and subsequently declared force majeure on the line, which it identified as 2KNJ-BRK1.

The incident disrupted bulk electricity transmission to Kebbi and Sokoto States, forcing TCN to reroute supply through an alternative 132kV corridor via the Kaduna-Mando axis.

The company, in a statement issued on Thursday, said the conductors and skywire had also been properly aligned in preparation for the next phase of the restoration work.

It added that an Emergency Restoration System tower had been transported to the site and was ready for installation.

“This will be followed by cable stringing and associated works towards the restoration of the affected transmission line,” TCN said.

According to the transmission company, its engineers and technical personnel are working at the site to expedite the restoration process and return the line to service.

“Our engineers and technical personnel remain actively engaged at the site and are working hard to ensure a quick completion and restoration of the line,” it said.

TCN said the completion of the rehabilitation would enable the resumption of normal bulk power transmission through the affected corridor.

It also appealed to electricity consumers and other stakeholders affected by the incident to remain patient and understanding, assuring them that all necessary efforts were being made to complete the restoration as soon as possible.

“TCN appreciates the patience and understanding of electricity consumers and other stakeholders affected by the incident and assures the public that every effort is being made to restore the line and, consequently, normal bulk transmission as soon as possible,” the statement added.
