Tambuwal drops out of Sokoto Senate contest in favor of former commissioner

Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, the former Governor of Sokoto State, has relinquished his bid for the 2027 Sokoto South Senatorial seat, ceding the African Democratic Congress ticket to Faruk Malami-Yabo, the ex-Commissioner for Finance.

Tambuwal's decision to step down is reportedly aimed at preserving unity within the party, following discussions and disagreements over candidate selection in the lead-up to the 2027 general elections, in which he is regarded as the leader of the ADC in Sokoto State.

Lamir Aminu, the Sokoto State Publicity Secretary of the ADC, confirmed this development in a telephone interview on Friday, stating that Tambuwal's move was motivated by a desire to promote peace and stability within the party.

According to Aminu, Tambuwal's decision to relinquish the ticket is intended to foster harmony and bolster internal democracy within the party, reflecting the ADC's ideology of nurturing young and vibrant leaders.

The ADC leadership in Sokoto State is committed to providing opportunities for younger politicians to contest positions, as evidenced by the allocation of most of the party's House of Representatives tickets to younger candidates.

This development occurs amidst ongoing political realignments within the ADC in Sokoto State, ahead of the 2027 elections, which are scheduled to take place on February 20, 2027.

Faruku Umar Fada, a chieftain of the ADC, has emerged as the party's candidate for the Sokoto North/Sokoto South Federal Constituency, with his emergence announced on Friday morning.

Fada is described by party supporters as a grassroots politician with strong backing across the constituency, and his emergence comes amid growing political activities ahead of the polls.

After securing the ticket, Fada expressed gratitude to party leaders and supporters for their confidence in him, pledging to run an inclusive campaign focused on youth empowerment, education, and effective representation.

Fada stated that his priorities would include effective representation, youth empowerment, education, and addressing challenges affecting constituents in Sokoto North and Sokoto South, expressing confidence that with the party's support, he would be successful.
