Suspected vandal nabbed with stolen Kebbi electricity cables

The Kebbi State Police Command has recovered a large quantity of stolen electricity service cables and arrested a suspected vandal, Mustapha Abubakar, in Bunza Local Government Area of the state.

The recovery was made on August 25, 2026, during a police operation in the Kara area of Bunza town following concerns over the persistent theft and vandalism of electricity infrastructure in the area.

According to a statement issued on Thursday by the command’s Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bashir Usman, the operation led to the recovery of 10 bundles and seven sacks of electricity service cables.

The statement said the vandalism of electricity infrastructure had plunged several communities into darkness and disrupted electricity supply to residents.

It added that the arrested suspect, Mustapha Abubakar, had subsequently been arraigned before a court.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Umar M. Hadejia, said the command would continue to clamp down on individuals and criminal networks involved in the theft and destruction of critical national infrastructure.

Hadejia reaffirmed the command’s commitment to protecting public assets, stressing that “perpetrators” of such crimes would face the full weight of the law.
