Spanish soccer star Ferran Torres seals long-term deal with Paris Saint-Germain through 2031

Paris Saint-Germain have officially confirmed the signing of Ferran Torres, a Spanish World Cup winner, on a long-term contract that will keep him at the club until 2031, with the forward set to don the number nine jersey.

Torres, born on February 29, 2000, in Foios, Spain, started playing football through futsal before joining Valencia CF's academy at the age of seven, where he would go on to rise through the ranks and make a name for himself.

His professional debut came in December 2017, when he became the first player born in the 21st century to feature in La Liga, making his debut against Eibar, and over the course of his three seasons with Valencia, Torres made 97 appearances and set numerous age-related records.

During his time at Valencia, Torres left a lasting impression, becoming the youngest player in the club's history to have played 50 league matches at just 19 years and 324 days, as well as the first goalscorer born in the 21st century in the Champions League for a Spanish club.

In 2019, Torres won his first professional trophy when Valencia lifted the Copa del Rey, and his performances soon earned him a move to Manchester City in 2020, where he played under the guidance of Pep Guardiola.

Torres scored his first goal for Manchester City in the EFL Cup against Burnley, just six days after making his Premier League debut against Wolverhampton, and went on to help the team reach the Champions League final in 2021, also winning the Premier League and League Cup during his time at the club.

He made 43 appearances for Manchester City, scoring 16 goals and providing four assists, before joining Barcelona during the 2021–22 winter transfer window, where he became an important member of the club's attack, earning the nickname "El Tiburón", or "The Shark" in Spanish.

At Barcelona, Torres found the net 65 times in 207 matches, including in the Copa del Rey final victory against Real Madrid in 2025, where he helped his team force the game into extra time, and won three La Liga titles, one Copa del Rey, and two Spanish Super Cups.

Torres's international career began with Spain's youth teams, where he won the European Under-17 Championship in 2017 and the Under-19 European Championship in 2019, and he has since become an established member of the senior national team, earning 65 caps.

He has represented Spain at several major tournaments, including Euro 2020 and the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, and has won the Nations League with Spain in 2023 and the European Championship in Germany in 2024, with Torres now adding the World Cup to his international honours.

Torres won the World Cup with Spain this summer in North America, scoring the only goal of the final in extra time as La Roja defeated Argentina, also earning him the Man of the Match award, and has now etched his name into the history books.

Torres expressed his delight at joining Paris Saint-Germain, stating, "I'm delighted to be beginning a new adventure at such an ambitious club as Paris Saint-Germain," and thanked President Nasser Al-Khelaïfi, Luis Campos, and coach Luis Enrique for giving him the opportunity to join the team.

Luis Enrique handed Torres his senior debut in 2020 during a Nations League match against Germany, and Torres will now begin the next chapter of his career in Paris, where he will wear the number nine shirt and remain under contract until 2031.
