Spanish giants Real Madrid announce capture of Cucurella from Chelsea

Monday saw Real Madrid confirm the acquisition of Spanish defender Marc Cucurella from Chelsea, with the transfer fee reportedly standing at 55 million euros ($63.8 million).

A statement from Los Blancos revealed that an agreement had been reached with Chelsea, paving the way for Cucurella to join the club for a six-season stint, set to expire on June 30, 2032.

Cucurella, a 27-year-old left-back, initially joined Chelsea from Brighton in 2022, having previously progressed through the academy of La Liga champions Barcelona before moving to Getafe.

Currently representing Spain at the World Cup, Cucurella is now the sole Real Madrid player in Luis de la Fuente's squad.

Earlier in June, Real Madrid president Florentino Perez was re-elected, following a two-season period without a major trophy win, and the club has since appointed Jose Mourinho as coach.

Los Blancos are expected to secure the signing of Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konate once his Anfield contract expires, and have also been linked with potential deals for Bernardo Silva and Inter Milan's Denzel Dumfries.

Chelsea experienced a disappointing Premier League campaign last season, finishing 10th, with Cucurella openly criticizing the decision to sack Enzo Maresca in January.

Cucurella had two years remaining on his contract at Stamford Bridge, where he won the Club World Cup and UEFA Conference League in 2025.
