Soludo’s wife celebrates discharge of brutalised 10-year-old boy from Anambra hospital

The Anambra State First Lady, Dr Nonye Soludo, has expressed immense joy and excitement over the full recovery and discharge from the hospital of the 10-year-old boy allegedly brutalised by his guardians in Awada, Obosi, Idemili North Local Government Area of the state.

Recall that the boy, identified as Chiziterem, has been receiving treatment under state protection after a viral video showed severe injuries and burns allegedly inflicted on him by his guardians, a woman and her husband, in June.

The victim, whose video showed extensive injuries across his body, went viral on social media and sparked widespread outrage, thereby attracting the attention of Soludo, who intervened in the situation.

The governor’s wife, who later took custody of the boy and pledged to take full responsibility for his rehabilitation and recovery, had been visiting the boy at the hospital, ensuring he receives specialised medical, psychological and emotional support to aid his recovery and reintegration.

Speaking after one of the visits at the hospital, the governor’s wife expressed relief that the boy’s condition had stabilised, describing his ordeal as a stark reminder of society’s duty to protect vulnerable children.

However, in a press statement she released on Saturday, Soludo expressed her excitement about the boy’s recovery, thanking everyone touched by his story, those who visited him, and those who sent gifts.

She added that their generosity and empathy truly made a difference in the boy’s quick recovery and stability.

She said, “My heart is filled with immense gratitude as Chiziterem leaves the hospital today fully healed. His journey reminds us that kindness, compassion, and collective love can restore hope even in the most difficult situations.

“I sincerely thank everyone who was touched by his story; those who visited him, prayed for him, sent gifts, offered words of encouragement, and stood with his family throughout this period. Your generosity and empathy truly made a real difference.

“As promised, I have taken care of all his medical bills, and we will also support his mother with the means to start a sustainable livelihood so she can provide a better future for her children.

“May Chiziterem’s recovery keep reminding us that every act of kindness has the power to change a life forever. God bless you all.”

PUNCH Online reported on June 19 that a 30-year-old woman, Chisom Chukwukere, who allegedly brutalised a 10-year-old boy in Awada, Obosi, in Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State, has been arrested by the police.

Her husband, Chukwudi, was also arrested over allegations that the couple used burning plastic to inflict severe burns on the child.

The victim, whose video showing extensive injuries across his body recently went viral on social media, had sparked widespread outrage.

Operatives of the Anambra State Police Command arrested the suspects.
