Six suspected cultists in police custody after Ekiti hotel raid

The police in Ekiti State have arrested six suspected members of a cult group, the Alora Confraternity, following a violent clash at a hotel in Ikere Ekiti.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Ekiti State Command, Sunday Abutu, said in a statement made available in Ado Ekiti on Monday that members of the suspected cult group, who had gathered at the hotel for a meeting in the early hours of Saturday, August 1, suddenly engaged one another in a physical confrontation.

Abutu stated that “one of the members, popularly known as Sucrose, sustained severe bodily injuries and was immediately rushed to a hospital for treatment.

“Following the incident, operatives of the Rapid Response Squad, in collaboration with surveillance operatives of Ilupeju Division, swooped on the scene, which resulted in the arrest of six suspects.

“During the preliminary investigation, the suspects reportedly admitted to being members of the Alora Secret Cult Confraternity,” the PPRO stated.

According to him, items recovered from the suspects included a Toyota Camry car, two fez caps bearing the Alora logo, three plastic cups bearing the Alora logo, a blood-stained shirt, a pair of scissors, a yellow-coloured headband, and a key holder bearing the Alora logo.

Abutu stated that the Commissioner of Police, Ekiti State Command, Michael Falade, had directed that the investigation into the incident be intensified.

According to him, the police command had begun a manhunt for other fleeing suspects, while the hotel was also being investigated for permitting its premises to be used for suspected secret cult activities.

The CP, Falade, who reiterated the command’s zero tolerance for cultism and other forms of violent crime, assured residents that the police would continue to take proactive measures to protect lives and property and maintain peace across the state.

Falade urged members of the public to provide credible and timely information that could assist in apprehending the remaining suspects and other criminal elements to enable residents to continue enjoying a peaceful atmosphere in the state.
