Dr. Faisal Shuaib, the former Executive Director/Chief Executive Officer of the National Primary Health Care Development Agency, has pulled out of the 2027 governorship race in Nasarawa State, opting instead to back Senator Ahmed Aliyu Wadada.
This decision was made public by Shuaib during a press conference, which took place after he had engaged in discussions with his supporters and various stakeholders from across the state.
Shuaib's choice to withdraw from the contest was reportedly influenced by his dedication to maintaining party unity, as well as his prior promise to support the candidate selected by Governor Abdullahi Sule.
He explicitly stated, "I am formally withdrawing from the contest for the APC gubernatorial ticket in Nasarawa State," and further declared, "I throw my full support behind Senator Ahmed Aliyu Wadada."
According to Shuaib, aspirants from the western zone had initially agreed to either come to a consensus on a candidate or throw their support behind the governor's chosen nominee.
When reaching a consensus proved to be challenging, the aspirants decided to respect the governor's decision, a choice that Shuaib noted was not easy for all parties involved.
Shuaib chose to stand by his commitment, saying, "I gave my word to support whoever the governor presents, that commitment must stand, even at a difficult time."
He expressed appreciation for the sacrifices made by his supporters and described the consultations that led to his withdrawal as one of the most trying moments of his career in politics.
Shuaib urged his supporters to rally behind the party's chosen candidate, and he also extended an offer of support to Wadada, promising cooperation and unity within the party as the elections approach.
Shuaib reaffirmed his commitment to the development of Nasarawa State and Nigeria, emphasizing that his decision to withdraw does not signify the end of his service to the community.
Additionally, he called upon Nigerians to lend their support to the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
