Shettima leads FG delegation to Yola, mourns Bamanga Tukur

Vice President Kashim Shettima led a Federal Government delegation to Yola, Adamawa State, to convey President Bola Tinubu’s condolences to the family of the late elder statesman and former Governor of old Gongola State, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur.

The VP first visited the palace of the Lamido of Adamawa, Alhaji Muhammadu Musdafa, where he paid homage and commiserated with the traditional ruler over the death of the Tafidan Adamawa.

Shettima thereafter proceeded to Tukur Lodge, the family residence of the deceased, where he delivered the President’s message of condolence to the family.

According to a statement issued on Thursday by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Communications, Office of the Vice President, Stanley Nkwocha, Shettima described Tukur as a distinguished Nigerian whose contributions to the country would endure.

Conveying Tinubu’s message, the VP described the late Tukur as “a quintessential statesman and accomplished Nigerian whose contributions to entrepreneurship, public service and national development would be remembered for generations.”

Shettima said although the elder statesman would be deeply missed, his family and the nation should celebrate his life of service.

“VP Shettima said that while the elder statesman would be deeply missed, his family and the nation should also celebrate a life distinguished by devotion to duty, enterprise and service to humanity,” the statement added.

The VP urged members of the Tukur family to remain united and uphold the values for which their late patriarch was known.

“He urged members of the Tukur family to remain united and preserve the legacy of peace and service for which their late patriarch was known,” the statement continued.

Shettima also commended the Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Fintiri, for the support extended to the bereaved family during the mourning period.

Responding on behalf of the family, the Secretary to the Adamawa State Government and son of the deceased, Awwal Tukur, thanked Tinubu for his message of comfort.

Awwal also expressed appreciation to Shettima and the Federal Government delegation for identifying with the family at the time of their loss.

Tukur, who died at the age of 90, was a former Governor of old Gongola State and former National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party.

n

He had a career spanning public administration, politics, industry and pan-African business leadership.

n

Tukur was also recognised for his contributions to entrepreneurship and public service during his decades of involvement in national affairs.

n

The Federal Government delegation’s visit to Yola came as the family, traditional institution and other stakeholders continued to mourn the elder statesman.
