Sevilla manager praises extraordinary Adams

Luis García, the head coach of Sevilla, has heaped praise on Nigerian forward Akor Adams, describing him as phenomenal after his match-winning goal sealed a dramatic 3-2 comeback victory over Villarreal at the Estadio de la Cerámica on Wednesday night.

Adams' decisive moment came 18 minutes from time, when he rifled a powerful left-footed strike past goalkeeper Arnau Tenas at the near post, after combining with Djibril Sow inside the penalty area to complete a remarkable turnaround.

García's post-game comments highlighted Adams' impressive performance, with the coach saying "Akor, now Akor again, is phenomenal" and expressing his admiration for the player's abilities.

García also cautioned that the season is not yet over, stating "Well, I hope I understand myself and, damn, what a tough guy and all, maybe it’s not done yet, until it’s done, I’m not going to relax for a second, not a second".

Adams' goal was his fourth match-winning strike of the season, adding to his previous decisive efforts against Rayo Vallecano, Athletic Bilbao, and RCD Espanyol.

Sevilla had begun the night only a point above the relegation zone, but a strong comeback ensured they moved further clear of the drop zone, after initially falling behind to goals from Gerard Moreno and Georges Mikautadze.

The hosts took the lead after 13 minutes, when Georges Mikautadze set up Gerard Moreno to finish calmly into the bottom corner, before doubling their advantage in the 20th minute as Mikautadze tapped home a cross from Alberto Moleiro.

Sevilla fought back through Oso, who finished brilliantly in the 36th minute after latching onto Lucien Agoumé’s diagonal pass, and then drew level in first-half stoppage time when Rubén Vargas cut the ball back for Kike Salas to fire home a powerful half-volley.

With the score level after the interval, Adams settled the contest in the 72nd minute, after Alexis Sánchez won possession high up the pitch and Juanlu Sánchez and Sow combined to work the ball across for the Nigerian to strike.

The goal took Adams' tally to 10 goals in LaLiga this season, with the 26-year-old now having registered 10 goals and four assists in 31 appearances across all competitions this season.

Notably, nine of Adams' league goals have come from inside the penalty area, with the forward boasting a conversion rate of 17 per cent.

Villarreal pushed for a late equaliser, but José Ángel Carmona preserved Sevilla's lead with a crucial goal-line clearance to deny Pau Navarro in the closing stages.

The result brought an end to Sevilla's run of four consecutive away defeats, as they moved further clear of the relegation zone.
