Senegal refinery seeks stronger partnership with Sahara

The Société Africaine de Raffinage, Senegal’s national refinery, has sought to strengthen its partnership with Sahara Group as the country works to address energy supply challenges and improve energy security.

The Managing Director of the refinery, Mamadou Diop, stated this during a recent meeting between President Bassirou Faye and a delegation from Sahara Group led by its Executive Director, Wale Ajibade, at the Presidential Palace in Dakar.

According to a statement, the meeting focused on the partnership between Sahara and SAR, including efforts to secure Senegal’s energy requirements amid challenging global market conditions.

President Faye commended Sahara’s longstanding relationship with the refinery and its support for Senegal’s energy sector, describing the company as a trusted partner.

“We appreciate Sahara’s dynamism, flexibility and constructive partnership with SAR, particularly its support in helping secure the country’s energy requirements amid challenging global market conditions,” President Faye added.

Ajibade said Sahara would continue to support Senegal’s energy security and economic development, noting that the country had remained an important partner for the group.

“Senegal has been an important partner for Sahara over the years, and we remain committed to deploying our expertise, infrastructure, financing capabilities and operational experience in ways that support the country’s energy ambitions. We are encouraged by the progress being made and look forward to deepening our partnership with SAR and other stakeholders across the energy value chain,” he said.

Diop stated that Sahara had made significant investments in Senegal and remained an important partner to the refinery and the country’s energy sector.

“Sahara Energy has invested significantly in Senegal over the years and remains a major and reliable partner. We are focused on strengthening our collaboration with Sahara to provide Senegal with greater flexibility in addressing the needs of the energy sector,” he stressed.

He added that Sahara had supported SAR’s crude oil supply requirements and continued to work with Senegalese stakeholders to navigate prevailing market challenges.

The meeting came as Senegal, SAR and Sahara seek to strengthen supply reliability and pursue measures aimed at enhancing the country’s long-term energy security.
