Security outfit saves pair of Fulani cattle breeders in Ondo

The Ondo State Security Network Agency, also known as the Amotekun Corps, announced on Tuesday that it had successfully rescued two young Fulani herders, Abubakar Umaru and Abdullahi Umaru, who had been abducted by suspected kidnappers in a forest along the Ondo–Edo State boundary.

According to the corps, the victims were tending cattle in the Owo area of the state when they were taken and whisked away into the forest, prompting their parents to report their disappearance to the authorities.

The state Commander of the corps, Adetunji Adeleye, explained that the operatives sprang into action after the victims' parents reported that the boys had failed to return home with their cattle, sparking a search and rescue operation.

Adeleye described the situation as unique, noting that out of hundreds of rescued victims, this particular case stood out, where two Fulani boys were kidnapped and their cattle rescued in Owo Local Government, and the corps was able to retrieve all the cows before searching for the missing boys.

The commander revealed that the search team eventually tracked down the abductors' hideout, deep in the Abuja Forest between Ondo and Edo, and successfully rescued the victims, with the kidnappers fleeing upon discovering that they were surrounded by security operatives.

Adeleye commended the residents for providing timely intelligence that aided the operation, and reiterated the agency's commitment to protecting all residents, regardless of their ethnicity, stating that the agency treats all criminals equally, without discrimination.

The commander emphasized that the Ondo State Security Network Agency does not discriminate, and that a criminal, regardless of their ethnic background, is treated as such, with the agency committed to upholding the law and protecting all residents.

In a separate incident, the security outfit had arrested a 56-year-old man, Iliasu, and his three sons, Usman, 33, Wahab, 27, and Yakubu, 18, in July 2026, for kidnapping a man at Oba Akoko, Akoko South-West Local Government Area of the state.
