Sallah Celebration: Federal Road Safety Corps Mobilizes Nearly 1,000 Personnel to Kwara State

In preparation for the Eid-el-Kabir celebration, the Federal Road Safety Corps, Kwara State Sector Command, has stationed 950 officers, marshals, special marshals, and first responders across the state to guarantee safer roads and smoother traffic flow.

The command has also assigned 16 patrol vehicles, four ambulances, and a 70-tonne tow truck to support a special patrol operation scheduled to take place from May 25 to May 31, 2026.

According to Olayinka Basambo, the Command's spokesperson, this deployment is part of a proactive strategy to minimize road accidents during the festive season, as outlined in a statement released on Monday.

Corps Commander Kabiru Kazeem has instructed the tactical deployment of personnel to major highways, cities, and areas prone to traffic congestion within Ilorin and other parts of the state, as disclosed by Basambo.

The operation aims to provide safer roads, rapid rescue services, efficient clearance of obstructions, and enhanced traffic management throughout the state, as explained by Basambo.

The command will also intensify public awareness campaigns at motor parks, markets, places of worship, and other public areas to educate road users on safe driving practices, according to Basambo.

Basambo added that the deployment is intended to reduce road traffic accidents, ensure prompt rescue responses, clear obstructions, and improve traffic flow throughout the festive period.

Corps Commander Kabiru Kazeem cautioned motorists to strictly adhere to traffic regulations during the celebration, emphasizing that enforcement would be intensified across major routes.

Kazeem specified that targeted offences would include overloading, reckless driving, improper overtaking, speeding, using mobile phones while driving, tyre violations, route violations, lane indiscipline, seatbelt violations, and carrying passengers with goods.

According to Kazeem, the primary objective of this operation is not only enforcement but also the protection of lives and property during the festive season.

Kazeem noted that ambulances and a heavy-duty tow truck have been deployed to ensure rapid emergency response and prompt removal of broken-down vehicles or obstructions along highways.

He further revealed that marshals have been positioned at strategic points along major roads in the state to monitor traffic and respond quickly to emergencies.

Kazeem urged motorists to drive responsibly and observe all safety regulations during the Eid-el-Kabir period, warning that "only the living celebrate".
