Rotary, Ekiti conduct medical outreaches

A health-focused group, Rotary Reproductive Maternal and Child Health, in collaboration with the Ekiti State Ministry of Health and the Primary Healthcare Development Agency, has conducted community medical outreaches across the state.

The outreach, held in parts of Ekiti, is aimed at improving access to basic healthcare services, particularly for women and children.

Speaking in Ado Ekiti on Thursday, the group’s officer, Mrs Omolara Asonibare, said the initiative was designed to address preventable deaths among pregnant women and children.

Asonibade said, “The initiative, which aligns with Rotary International’s broader goal of promoting healthier families in Nigeria, is aimed at improving access to healthcare services and enhancing the wellbeing of residents, particularly women and children.

“The outreach seeks to reach a large number of residents by providing life-saving services and addressing rising maternal health challenges in the state.”

Also, a representative of the group, Miss Adeola Adeleke, said the outreach provided services including family planning, malaria testing and treatment, hepatitis and HIV screening, as well as medical consultations.

The exercise was conducted in communities such as Ayegunle in Ijero Local Government Area, Ago Aduloju and Idofin in Ado Local Government Area, and Awo Ekiti and Afao Ekiti in Irepodun/Ifelodun Local Government Area.

In her remarks, the Ekiti State Family Planning Coordinator, Mrs Bukola Adekemi, said the government had continued efforts to improve maternal and child healthcare through the provision of commodities and free malaria treatment.

Also, the state Sexual and Reproductive Health Focal Person, Mrs Funmilayo Osho, said that the outreach offered a range of services, including eye tests and glasses, general medical check-ups, consultations, treatment and family planning services.

A beneficiary, Mrs Abigael Ojo, said the outreach would improve access to healthcare in underserved communities.

The initiative is part of the “Together for Healthy Families in Nigeria” project being implemented in Ekiti and other states, including Gombe, Nasarawa and the Federal Capital Territory.
