Rhodes-Vivour credits mother with instilling courage, recalls her backing for his political pursuits

African Democratic Congress governorship candidate Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour has penned a heartfelt tribute to his late mother, Nkechi Stella Rhodes-Vivour, who overcame her initial fears to become a pillar of support throughout his political career.

Earlier, Rhodes-Vivour had announced his mother's passing on his X handle, remembering her as a loving wife, devoted mother, and grandmother, a testament to her enduring legacy.

In a separate Instagram tribute posted on Sunday, Rhodes-Vivour reflected on the profound impact his mother had on his life, describing her as a paragon of faith, resilience, and unconditional love.

He fondly recalled his mother's unwavering dedication, saying, "To know my mother, Nkechi Stella Rhodes-Vivour née Waboso, was to know dedication, faith, resilience and love," and noted that her love was uniquely tailored to each of her children.

Rhodes-Vivour's mother was his rock, always knowing the right words to say to lift his spirits during difficult times, and her prayers strengthened him when he needed it most.

Initially, she had struggled to come to terms with his decision to enter politics due to the risks involved, but ultimately, her love and courage won out, transforming her into one of his biggest supporters on the campaign trail.

According to Rhodes-Vivour, his mother taught him valuable life lessons, including that love should be expressed through service and kindness, and that one should never compare themselves to others, but instead seek guidance from a higher power.

She was a compassionate woman with a gift for helping others, constantly offering encouragement and prayers to those around her, and refusing to give up on anyone, instead guiding them towards a better path.

Rhodes-Vivour expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to make his mother proud during her lifetime, thanking God for the many moments they shared that brought her joy and allowed him to return the love she had given him.

He will deeply miss his mother, but takes comfort in the knowledge that she will continue to watch over him as a "powerful angel," and bid her a fond farewell, saying "Miss you terribly."
