Defending champions Remo Stars will attempt to keep their Nigeria Premier Football League survival hopes alive when they host fellow relegation-threatened side Bayelsa United in a crucial matchday 37 encounter at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne today, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.

The Sky Blue Stars head into the penultimate fixture of the 2025/26 season occupying 18th place on the table with 43 points, just above Bayelsa United, who sit 19th with 40 points, making the clash one of the defining fixtures in the battle to avoid relegation.

Despite enduring a difficult campaign after winning the league title last season, Remo Stars technical adviser Usman Abd’Allah insisted his side were fully prepared to handle the pressure and secure maximum points in front of their home supporters.

“The team is well prepared and fully motivated,” Abd’Allah said ahead of the game.

“This is a defining game that will shape our fate, but we’re not under pressure. We’ll approach it like every other match, with one goal to get maximum points.”

“Even as champions, we are more determined than ever to give our best and retain our place in the league.”

The former Kano Pillars coach, who arrived at the club in February during the height of their relegation struggles, has overseen an improvement in performances in recent weeks as Remo Stars attempt to avoid a dramatic drop from the top flight.

Abd’Allah also praised the unity within the club, crediting the management and technical crew for helping steady the team during a turbulent season.

Away from the relegation battle, the coach commended organisers of the ongoing Nigeria National League Super Four competition taking place at the Remo Stars Stadium, describing it as a well-structured tournament capable of preparing promoted sides for life in the NPFL.

He also hailed the presence of Eric Chelle at the competition, saying the Super Eagles coach’s attendance highlighted the growing quality of players in both the NPFL and the Nigeria National League.

“Nigeria is blessed with a wealth of young talent, including several players in our academy who are waiting for their opportunity,” Abd’Allah said.

“I commend the Super Eagles coach for scouting NPFL and NNL players for the national team.”

The Remo Stars coach further urged Nigerian managers to embrace continuous learning and modern coaching methods in order to remain competitive in the evolving game.

“Football has evolved beyond traditional approaches. Coaches must be willing to upgrade their knowledge consistently,” he added.
