The win, which came courtesy of Hansi Flick's side, ensured Barcelona would clinch La Liga for consecutive years, while condemning Madrid to a trophyless season, with Barca now 14 points clear of second-place Los Blancos and only three matches remaining.

This outcome marked only the second occasion that the result of a Clásico has directly determined the La Liga title, with the first instance occurring in 1932 when record 36-time champions Real Madrid won their first title after a draw with Barca.

Despite being knocked out of the Champions League quarter-finals by Atletico Madrid in April, Flick's team remained determined to celebrate their title win in style, with midfielder Frenkie de Jong stating, "This title is more special for winning it at home against Madrid, now we have to enjoy it with the fans."

De Jong also expressed his team's ambition, saying, "We have been the best team in Spain — of course, we want to win the Champions League, that's the objective, and next year we will have another opportunity."

Madrid's preparations for the match were marred by chaos, with midfielder Fede Valverde ruled out due to a head injury sustained in a training ground scuffle with team-mate Aurelien Tchouameni, who started the game.

Barca coach Flick received tragic news before the game, with the passing of his father, but he took his place on the touchline to oversee his side's comfortable 2-0 triumph.

Flick opted to start the energetic Marcus Rashford, on loan from Manchester United, on the right wing in place of the injured teenage star Lamine Yamal, a decision that paid off as Rashford opened the scoring with a superb free-kick.

Torres' goal came courtesy of a clever backheel from Dani Olmo, which allowed him to burst into the box and score past Thibaut Courtois, while Gonzalo Garcia, playing in place of injured Madrid superstar Kylian Mbappe, narrowly missed the target after racing in behind Barca's high defensive line.

Madrid, urged on by coach Alvaro Arbeloa, battled to stem the bleeding, but Rashford could have added a third before the break, only to fire wide, with Fermin Lopez unmarked and well placed to finish.

Torres should have struck early in the second half, but Courtois saved from the Spain international as he ran through, while Jude Bellingham had a goal ruled out for offside, and Joan Garcia thwarted Vinicius Junior as Madrid threatened.

Barcelona can win all their home matches if they defeat Real Betis in their one remaining match, and the team's domestic domination shows no signs of abating, with Madrid finishing a second consecutive season without a major trophy.
