Qatari military chopper goes down, claiming six lives, with one person unaccounted for

According to Qatar's Ministry of Defence, the crash was caused by a technical fault during a routine operation, as stated in a statement released on X, which attributed the incident to a malfunction.

The ministry's statement clarified that "the helicopter crashed due to a technical malfunction in Qatari waters during a routine duty", emphasizing that the circumstances were not related to any hostile action.

The aircraft, which had a total of seven occupants, crashed under circumstances that authorities have insisted were not linked to any hostile action, despite increased military activity in the region.

Rescue efforts were ongoing, with Qatar's Ministry of Interior announcing that specialised teams were scouring the waters to locate the missing occupant, stating that "specialised operations continue to find the last missing person".

The identities of the deceased revealed that the operation involved personnel from both the Turkish and Qatari militaries, including Captain (Pilot) Mubarak Al-Marri, Sergeant Fahad Al-Khayarin, and Corporal Mohammed Mohammed of the Qatar Armed Forces.

Major Sinan Tastekin from the Qatar-Turkiye Joint Forces, as well as Turkish civilian collaborators Suleiman Kahraman and Ismail Can, were also among those who lost their lives in the crash.

Authorities confirmed that efforts were underway to locate the pilot of the ill-fated helicopter and extended condolences to the families of the deceased.

The Turkish Ministry of Defence also acknowledged the loss, noting that one of its soldiers and two personnel linked to the Turkish defence firm Aselsan were among those killed, stating that "the aircraft crashed due to a technical issue during a training flight".
