PTAD clears N18.96bn PHCN pensioners arrears

The Pension Transitional Arrangement Directorate (PTAD) has disbursed a total of N18.96 billion to settle outstanding Back-End Computation arrears owed to 3,958 eligible PHCN pensioners under the Defined Benefit Pension Scheme.

The latest payment, amounting to N9.476 billion, represents the outstanding 50 per cent balance of the BEC arrears owed to the affected pensioners.

In a statement on its X handle on Thursday, PTAD said the payment followed an earlier disbursement of N9.482 billion made in June 2026, representing the first 50 per cent tranche of the arrears.

With the latest payment, the Directorate said it had fully settled the BEC arrears, bringing the total amount disbursed to N18,958,199,952.27.

The directorate described the full settlement as “a significant milestone in the resolution of outstanding pension liabilities,” adding that it demonstrated the commitment of the Federal Government and PTAD to safeguarding the welfare and entitlements of pensioners under the DBS.

The Executive Secretary of PTAD, Tolulope Odunaiya, reaffirmed the Directorate’s commitment to ensuring that every eligible DBS pensioner receives all entitlements legitimately due to them.

Odunaiya also highlighted the commitment of the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to the welfare and well-being of DBS pensioners.

According to her, “the years of sacrifice and meritorious service rendered by Nigeria’s senior citizens will continue to be recognised and honoured,” as the administration advances initiatives aimed at protecting their welfare and promoting a more dignified and secure retirement.

PTAD said the Federal Government, through the Directorate, would continue to address outstanding pension liabilities and ensure that Nigerians who devoted their productive years to national service receive the benefits due to them.
