Prominent pastors Adeboye, Kumuyi, and Olukoya are leaders of their respective denominations, not the founders of the Nigerian Christian movement, according to a religious leader.

Rev. Isaac Omolehin, the founder of The Word Assembly Churches, has stated that Nigerian Christianity lacks a unifying paternal figure, emphasizing that prominent church leaders are primarily denominational heads rather than fathers to the entire Christian community.

Omolehin made this declaration in a sermon that was uploaded on the church's official YouTube channel on Wednesday, and by Saturday, a clip of the sermon had gone viral on social media.

During the sermon, Omolehin questioned the notion of "fathers" in Nigerian Christianity, asking which fathers were being referred to, and emphasizing that the country's Christian community has no overarching father figure.

He argued that a true father figure would be someone who looks after all Christians, regardless of denomination, rather than simply promoting a particular denominational agenda or competing with other churches.

Omolehin cited the example of church leaders competing to build larger auditoriums or acquire more aircraft, saying that this type of rivalry has no spiritual content.

While acknowledging the stature of General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Enoch Adeboye, Omolehin insisted that Adeboye's influence is largely limited to his own denomination.

Omolehin noted that Adeboye, as well as other prominent church leaders like Kumuyi and Olukoya, are primarily focused on their own denominations, and may not be aware of the issues affecting Christians in other denominations.

According to Omolehin, a figure deserving of the title "father of Nigerian Christianity" must be able to transcend denominational loyalty and be a father to all Christians, regardless of their specific denomination.

He argued that such a figure must be able to put aside denominational differences and be a unifying force for all Christians, including those from Roman Catholic, Methodist, Anglican, and Apostolic backgrounds.

Omolehin believes that the absence of a unifying paternal figure is why no church leader has spoken authoritatively on issues affecting Christians broadly, and that instead, there are only denominational fathers who do not represent the entire Christian community.

He emphasized that a true father figure must be the father of all Christians, regardless of denomination, because ultimately, all Christians are headed to the same destination, and denominational distinctions will be irrelevant in eternity.
