Presidential Enabling Business Environment Council to Launch Lagos Port Axis Sanitization Effort on May 14

A two-day clean-up and enforcement operation is set to commence on May 14 along the Lagos port corridor, targeting congestion and traffic bottlenecks surrounding the Apapa and Tin Can ports, as announced by the Presidential Enabling Business Environment Council.

The operation's details were revealed by Princess Zahrah Mustapha Audu, Director-General of PEBEC, in a statement issued on Saturday, outlining the council's efforts to address the ongoing issues.

According to Audu, the exercise aims to enhance trade facilitation and decrease the cost of doing business in Nigeria, which is being coordinated by the Ports and Customs Efficiency Committee.

She cited congestion, unauthorised checkpoints, indiscriminate parking, and uncoordinated activities along port access roads as factors that have been hindering cargo movement and driving up logistics costs.

The operation will involve a collaborative effort between the Nigerian Ports Authority, Nigeria Customs Service, Nigeria Police Force, Lagos State Government, port terminal operators, and other security and regulatory agencies.

Audu emphasized that the exercise is expected to yield improvements in traffic management, reduce cargo delays, and boost operational efficiency within Nigeria's busiest maritime corridor.

She clarified that the operation's purpose is not to disrupt legitimate business activities, but rather to foster a more predictable and efficient environment for port users.

PEBEC was established in 2016 with the primary goal of reducing bureaucratic bottlenecks and enhancing Nigeria's business environment.
