Preparations are complete for Zambia match, says Madugu

Nigeria's Super Falcons coach, Justine Madugu, has deflected criticism of his tactics after the team's shocking 3-2 loss to WAFCON newcomers Malawi, stating that his team is prepared for the crucial Group C match against Zambia on Saturday.
nMadugu faced scrutiny following the unexpected defeat to the Scorchers on Tuesday, which marked the first time the defending champions have lost to a debutant nation in the Women's Africa Cup of Nations history, at the age of 61.
nThe coach acknowledged that fans have the right to question his methods, but pointed to his track record with the team, saying that his technical and tactical ability is being questioned only because of the loss to Malawi.
nMadugu emphasized that the loss to Malawi was not his first game with the Super Falcons, having handled several other matches that the team won, and that nobody questioned him during those victories.
nThe coach stated that the team is focused on moving forward, referencing their win at the 2024 tournament, and that the loss to Malawi has led to questions about his tactics, which he believes is within the fans' rights to do so.
nMadugu also defended his team selection for the Malawi match, explaining that training performances play a significant role in his decision-making, and that a player's readiness for action is determined by their performance in training.
nHe added that a player's level of preparedness is assessed through their training, and that the game plan and player adaptation are key factors in selecting the team, with the understanding that not all players will assimilate quickly.
nDespite the disappointment of the loss, Madugu reported that the mood in the camp has improved ahead of the Zambia match, describing it as a must-win game.
nThe coach noted that Zambia's confidence will be boosted by their victory over Egypt, and that the Super Falcons will not approach the game with complacency, recognizing the high stakes of the match.
