Portable hints at returning to school, identifies as Kwara Poly dropout

Street-pop artiste, Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, has revealed plans to return to school years after his claim of dropping out of Kwara State Polytechnic, saying he still hopes to complete his education despite his success in the music industry.

The singer made the disclosure in a preview of the Honest Brunch Podcast, scheduled for release on YouTube on Monday, where he reflected on his educational journey, struggles with school fees and his rise to fame.

Portable said financial hardship forced him to abandon his education, recalling that he sold sachet water while trying to stay in school before eventually dropping out after he could no longer afford the fees.

“I go still finish school as I dey like this. I no finish school,” he said.

He explained that he had no sponsor to support his education, making it impossible for him to continue his studies.

“I no see anybody to sponsor me again. The school fees is high. I go still finish school as I dey like this,” he added.

The singer disclosed that he secured admission into Kwara Poly through the institution’s indigene quota and studied Business Administration before leaving the programme.

According to him, dropping out of the institution remains one of his biggest regrets.

“Na Kwara Poly pain me pass. I be student… Na indigene this thing I use enter. I studied Business Administration,” he said.

Portable also reflected on how life had turned around for him despite not earning a tertiary qualification, noting that he now shoulders responsibilities for his family.

He said that although he was once considered the least academically gifted among his siblings, he now provides financial support for his father, while his sisters are also working to earn a living.

“Person wey dem dey call olodo for my family na me still dey feed my papa now,” he said.

While encouraging young people not to give up on education, the singer maintained that academic qualifications alone do not determine success, stressing that opportunities can come through different paths.

“It is not a must you finish school before you get am. You fit go get am from outside and come back finish school. I go still finish school as I dey like this,” Portable said.
