Police will respect citizens under my watch, new Edo CP vows

The newly deployed Commissioner of Police in Edo State, Patrick Daor, on Monday vowed to ensure that residents of the state are treated with respect by operatives of the command under his leadership.

Daor spoke when his predecessor, now Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Monday Agbonika, officially handed over the command to him at the state police headquarters in Benin.

The new CP also vowed to intensify the command’s crime-fighting strategies by fine-tuning existing approaches, while building on the successes recorded under his predecessor.

“More importantly, I will ensure that every policeman has respect for every citizen of this state. We will work towards winning more of the trust of the good people of this state. And we will maintain a very open-door policy.

“Everyone is welcome to contribute. I’m sure you are aware of the popular saying that policing is not just for the police alone. It’s for every one of us. Wherever there are issues that you think I should be informed of, please don’t hesitate. Let me know. And that issue will be handled with the utmost professionalism,” the new CP said.

Daor said the Edo State Police Command would be highly mobile under his leadership, with personnel expected to respond promptly to issues affecting residents.

“A command that is always moving. You know, addressing every issue that has to do with the good people of those states,” he added.

Earlier, Agbonika said crime had been reduced to the minimum under his leadership.

He thanked personnel of the command, spiritual leaders and the Edo State Government for the support he received during his tenure as Commissioner of Police.
