Police detain suspect in connection with rape and murder of female victim in Ondo

A 21-year-old man, Alabi Anthony, has been taken into custody by the Ondo State Police Command on Sunday, accused of raping and murdering Olaseni Veronica in the Iboropa community, located within the Akoko North-East Local Government Area.

According to reports, the alleged crime occurred last week, with the suspect purportedly strangling the victim after committing the sexual assault, resulting in her death.

The Ondo Police Public Relations Officer, Abayomi Jimoh, revealed that detectives utilized credible intelligence to track down the deceased's missing phone, ultimately leading to Anthony's arrest.

Anthony has reportedly confessed to the crime, acknowledging that he had sexual relations with the victim before strangling her to death, as stated by Jimoh.

The command, through Jimoh, denounced the act as heinous and inhumane, assuring the public that the pursuit of justice will be diligent and thorough.

Jimoh further stated that the case has been transferred to the command headquarters in Akure for additional investigation and prosecution.
